Far-Northern California Food Hub Study

Shasta Regional Transportation Agency (SRTA), Superior California Economic Development and Growing Local have partnered to study the feasibility of a food hub located in Shasta County.  The project aims to reduce the number of ‘food miles’ between the producer and consumer by creating efficiencies in the aggregation, wholesale, and distribution of agricultural goods.  The food hub is identified in the 2015 Regional Transportation Plan as a key strategy for reducing traffic congestion and associated greenhouse gas emissions.  Job creation, improved access to fresh local food, and increased regional self-sufficiency are a few of the many additional potential benefits.

SRTA has contracted with New Venture Advisors, a consultant firm specializing in local food system planning and food business development, to carry out a financial feasibility study, business plan, and pilot demonstration project.
